Sarangkot is Ward 18 of Pokhara, Kaski District, Nepal, after it was merged into the city in 2015. It is a popular tourist destination for those who arrive in Pokhara. At the 1991 Nepal census it had a total population of 5,060 with 1,010 individual households.
Sarangkot, one of the few places where you can experience the heaven in the early dawn. Sarangkot is known for panoramic Himalayan views of Dhaulagiri (8167m),tent-like peak of Annapurna II (7937m) and Manaslu and pyramid of Machhapuchhare (Fishtail) (6997m). It also provides an expansive view of the city of Pokhara, from the extreme north to the south including the Phewa Lake and Peace pagoda. Tourists drive up the hill to watch the sunrise from the view tower at the top. In recent years, Sarangkot has been called one of the best Paragliding locations in the world. The hike up from Pokhara Baglung Highway at Miruwa to Sarangkot takes 90 minutes to two hours. Most people come here at dawn or dusk, when the sun picks out the peaks, transforming them from a purple-pink to a celestial gold. If you feel noisy teenagers are ruining the peace at the viewing tower, try walking further along to the secluded grassy helicopter pad.
The main village is just below the ridge, but a set of steps leads uphill to a dramatic viewpoint, the site of an ancient kot (fort). There’s a ruined fort at Kaskikot (1788m), a one-hour walk west of Sarangkot along the ridge road, with similarly jaw-dropping views.
