Bodhi Tree

The Bodhi (Pipal) tree in Lumbini is located in the premises of Maya Devi temple complex right next to the banks of the peaceful Maya Devi Pond. The tree is an age-old Pipal tree wrapped in colorful prayer flags. The Bodhi tree is considered important as the entire journey of Lord Buddha’s life is connected with the tree.

    All about the Bodhi Tree.

    The Bodhi Tree in Lumbini is located in the premises of the Maya Devi Temple complex right next to the shrine on the banks of the serene Maya Devi Pond. Buddhist monks often sit under the tree meditating and chanting spiritual scripts. The tree is an age-old Pipal tree or Focus Religious clad in colorful prayer flags, Locals believe that wishes made while tying a colorful prayer flag are often granted.

    This Bodhi tree is located opposite the Mayadevi pond in Lumbini. “Bodhi Tree”, which is also known as Bo, is actually a term used for the very old fig tree where The Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, is said to have sat under when he achieved spiritual enlightenment in India. Such a stage of enlightenment is known as Bodhi.

    The destination takes approximately 45 minutes by flight from Kathmandu to Bhairahawa and then 30 minutes by drive from Bhairahawa to reach Maya Devi temple.
